Social distancing, now referred to more accurately as physical distancing, means keeping a physical distance from other people. Governments across Canada have asked that to help limit the spread of COVID-19 people try to keep a distance of at least 2 meters (about 6 feet) from other people.
How to practice physical distancing
Other recommendations made to help limit the spread of the virus are to wear a mask or face covering when possible when in close contact with others, and avoid:
- large social gatherings
- handshakes
- hugs
- public transit during peak hours
- visiting vulnerable people, such as the elderly, children, those who are ill, etc.
