Canada Dental Benefit

The Canada Dental Benefit is a new federal tax benefit created to help lower dental costs for eligible families earning less than $90,000 per year.

Eligibility

To be eligible, parents and guardians who have a child under 12 years old receiving dental care:

  • do not have access to a private dental insurance plan
  • have out-of-pocket expenses they will use for the Benefit
  • can provide documentation, such as receipts, to verify out of pocket expenses occurred, if required

How much can you receive?

Eligible parents and guardians may receive a tax-free payment of:

  • $650 for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is under $70,000.
  • $390 for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $70,000 and $79,999.
  • $260 for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $80,000 and $89,999.

There is a maximum of 2 payments for each eligible child.

When is it available?

The benefit is only available for 2 periods, the first period for dental care received between October 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.

As of December 1, 2022 applications are open for this period.
